Biz Idea!!
EasyFix, an on-call-technician
service, was born out of a personal need. Plumbers and electricians are
known for not showing up on time. Also, varying rates, following up
difficulties and security were key concerns. 25-year-old Shaifali
Agarwal took matters into her hands and started EasyFix in mid 2011.
This is how it works: A client calls the helpline, the problem is
understood and the right technician is sent. An estimated bill for the
job is given and, at the end, a receipt is handed over. The minimum
visiting charge is Rs 100.
Finding technicians was tough. “They had never worked in a salaried environment — only one out of 10 would agree,” says Agarwal. As word spread, technicians turned up. She also wanted to disprove that EasyFix is pricier than the neighbourhood handyman. “Our services are slightly expensive, but our target group live in South Delhi and Gurgaon,” says Agarwal. EasyFix will be in Mumbai by March end, and wants to be in all metros soon.
EasyFix now earns Rs 600-700 per day per technician and is close to break even. “We will make money as we scale up,” says Agarwal, who wants to be the biggest employer of blue-collar workers in India.

Intelligent Brains
Sometimes I wonder if I'm where I'm supposed to be,
or if I'm who I'm supposed to be...
I wonder what this life has in store for me.
Sometimes I feel sure of what I want and where I'm to go,
Other I feel lost and try not to let it show.
I live my life from day to day,
and love everything in every single way.
But sometimes at night I lay and stare,
and hope for answers through answered prayers.
Do I go left or should choose right,
the road are as dark as a moonless night.
I hesitate not because I am scared,
and not even because I am unprepared.
I sit an ponder which road to choose,
simply because I don't want to loose.
To make the wrong choice would be hardest to bare,
or is that God's intentions...a double dare.
A dare to take the road less traveled,
and risk the road chosen to become unrevealed.
Although it may seem like the road is too slick,
doesn't us talking it make it the right road to pick?
So then we must wonder is there a right and wrong path,
or simply two different ways for us to do the math.
However we add it, it equals the same,
but the method used to get there is what makes the game.
So although I feel I lost from time to time,
I take great comfort in the fact that choice is all mine.
I can choose to go left, or I can choose to go right,
either way in the end there's a golden light.
So although we may wonder which path to choose,
we must remember in life we have nothing to loose.
Which choice we make, A or B,
the one we choose is meant to be.
So instead of trying to force life to fit,
just let life happen and enjoy it.
It's going to work at its own pace,
life is a journey not a race.
So sit back and enjoy this precious gift,
and when the gears need changed don't hesitate to shift!

Foresight Institute of Management conducted Fedora workshop

workshop on Fedora
We had conducted a one-day introductory workshop on Fedora at
Foresight Institute of Management and Research, affiliated to
University of Pune, Maharashtra, India on Saturday, December 3, 2011.
We started the day's proceedings with an introduction to free/open
source software. Most of the students who participated were studying
towards their bachelor's programme in computer applications (BCA), and
were familiar with C, C++ and Java development. We gave a
demo of theFedora desktop, and also showed them the plethora of
software that they can use.
We also introduced them to revision control with examples on using git.
We also addressed the various communication tools that we use, the
basic communication guidelines, and the Fedora sub-projects that they
can participate in.
During the post-lunch session, We explained to them about copyright,
trademarks, and licensing, and how to use them. We explained the basic
concepts in installation, and gave them a demo of installation of
Fedora. We have given them CD/DVD images of both Fedora 15 and 16.
Thanks to Antriksh Shah for working with us for a month in organizing
this workshop.
